Milestones - File Opening

Question 1:  
I have Milestones Professional installed on my computer.  When I double-click on a file with an MLB extension (or ML8, or MLA,....), nothing happens.  Milestones Professional does not start automatically.  Why not?

Similar Question:  When someone e-mails me a Milestones Professional schedule, the icon in my e-mail program does not look like a Milestones software icon.  Why not?

CREATING A FILE ASSOCIATION

Question 1:

  I have Milestones Professional installed on my computer.  When I double-click on a file with an MLB extension (or ML8, or MLA,....), nothing happens.  Milestones Professional does not start automatically.

Answer 1:

  This is an unusual problem, but it has happened and may be due to registry corruption following installation of other software.  Whatever the cause, the following instructions should help.  If problems continue we suggest a full re-install of your Milestones software (un-install first).
   
1   Right-click the file using Windows Explorer.  On the pop-up menu, choose Open With.
2     Next, on the menu which pops up to the right, select Choose Program.
3   A list of programs will be shown.  Select your Milestones software.  If it does not appear use the Browse to locate the software.
4   Be sure to check the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file option. (see below).

Question 2:   I have Milestones Professional installed on my computer.  When I double-click on a file with an MLB extension (or ML8, or MLA...), the Milestones Viewer starts.  I want Milestones Professional to start.

Similar Question:  When someone e-mails me a Milestones Professional schedule and I click on the icon, the Viewer starts instead of Milestones Professional.  Why is this?

     
Answer 2:   This is happening because the Viewer was the most recently installed Milestones software on your computer.  Usually, the Viewer is not installed on the same computer as the Milestones Professional (or Milestones Simplicity, Milestones Project Companion) software.

The solution is to "re-register" your Milestones Professional software.  Instructions are provided for Milestones Professional 2008 and 2006.  They are also provided for Milestones Project Companion and Milestones Simplicity. 

Follow the instructions for the software you are using:

     
    FOR Milestones Professional 2010:
   
1       On the Tools tab, choose Files and Automation.

Click once on this button:    
3   Press OK when the dialog box is shown.
     
     
    FOR Milestones Simplicity 2010:
   
1       On the Tools menu, choose Program Options.
2   Choose the Files and Automation tab.
3  
Click once on this button:    
4   Press OK when the dialog box is shown.
