How to Install and Activate Milestones Software

Single Workstation Installation

Before you Start

If you have already download the software, you do not have to download it again.
If you have already installed the trial version, do not re-install. Go to these instructions.

To install Milestones:

Insert the CD into your computer, click the Install Software button, and then click the Install Milestones Professional (or Simplicity or Project Companion) 2008 button. At this point the software installation begins.

Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard

At any point you can stop the installation by pressing the Cancel button. All changes made up to that point will be reversed.

Click Next to continue.

License Agreement

Read the license agreement carefully. Choose to accept or not accept the terms in the license agreement.

Click Next if you accept the licensing agreement.

Customer Information

See Below for help on filling out the customer information.

When you have completed filling out all the Customer information Click Next

User Name	Enter the name of the person licensed to use this copy of the software.
Organization	Enter the name of your company, or enter “None”.
Serial Number e.g. M2004-1234567	If you have a serial number, then enter it in the Serial Number slot.
Serial Number e.g. M2004-1234567	If you do not have a Serial Number, then enter “Eval".
NOTE: Once you have purchased the software, you will receive a serial number.
Program Key e.g. 123-123456-AB1234	If you have either a temporary or permanent program key, enter that key in the Program Key blank.
Program Key e.g. 123-123456-AB1234	To use the software in the "20 save limit" trial mode, leave Program Key completely blank (not even blank spaces).
NOTE: Once you have purchased the software, you will receive a permanent program key.
Email Address	You must enter a valid e-mail address. E-mail addresses are kept confidential and are not released.
Install this application for	Most users should choose Only for me. Then choose Next. If you choose All Users of this computer, read the following information.

Under Install this application for, if you choose All Users of this computer, then all current and future users of this computer will be given access to Milestones Professional.

However, in order for this access to be possible, the Milestones Professional 2006.msi file must be available to these other users the first time they log on after you complete the installation.

A NOTE ABOUT SELECTING ALL USERS OF THIS COMPUTER

If you select to install Milestones Professional for All Users of your computer, then the first time that other users log on to this computer after the installation is complete, the Windows Installer service will attempt to access the copy of the MSI file from which you installed Milestones Professional in order to complete the user-specific installation steps.

Therefore, to support this future need to access the Milestones Professional 2006.msi file, you should make sure that you do one of the following:

1. Make a copy of the Milestones Professional 2006.msi file on your network in a place that all users of this computer can access and then install from that copy.

—OR—

2. Install from the copy of Milestones Professional 2006.msi on your Milestones Professional 2006 CD and then make sure that current and future users of this computer have access to the CD.

In an All Users installation, it is very important that Milestones be started by an Administrator so that the Activation step can be accomplished. Any Restricted Users, i.e. users assigned only to the Users group, may not be able to successfully Activate Milestones since they may not have access to the section of the registry that holds the Activation key.

Click Next to continue.

Destination Folder

The default is usually the preferred folder to use.

Click Next to continue.

Click the Change button to select a different destination folder for installation.

Ready to Install the Program

Click the Install button to proceed with the installation.

InstallShield Wizard Completed

The Install is complete.

Check on Launch Milestones Professional (or Simplicity or Project Companion) 2008 to start a session of the software.

Choose Finish.

Note: Upon opening Milestones you will be asked to activate your software.
