XML Export
|
 |
|
|
| A Milestones file can be
exported as an XML file. First, choose which Milestones columns should be
exported, then save that data as an XML file. |
| |
Choose which Milestones
columns to export to XML:
| |
|
| 1 |
Under the File menu choose
Export Data | XML | XML Column Mapping. |
| 2 |
On the XML Export Preferences
dialog box, choose <NAME> next to the column heading for the
project activities. This is the only required field to export. Other
critical data is exported by default (e.g. start and duration values for
each activity) |
| 3 |
Choose other fields next to any other
Milestones columns you wish to export.
|
|
Export the selected data to
an XML file:
|
1 |
Under the File menu choose
Export Data | XML | Export Schedule to XML File. |
|
2 |
Enter a File name and Save. |
|
| |
| Notes: |
When exporting Milestones
information as an XML file and then importing that XML file into Microsoft
Project, note that the many differences in functionality and default
settings between Milestones Professional and Microsoft Project may cause
some data to display differently in Microsoft Project. These differences
include
but are not limited to:
-
Different holiday calendars,
working/non-working weekends, workday start and end time, etc.
-
Microsoft Project uses resource tables,
whereas Milestones can display user-entered resource names
next to each activity. Accordingly, the exported XML file contains a
placeholder resource name for each activity (e.g.
MilestonesImportResource1, MilestonesImportResource2, etc.).
-
Microsoft Project uses a start or finish
date and a duration value to create the Gantt bar. Different work day time
periods, holiday calendars, working/non-working weekends can therefore
result in a different finish date or start date compared to that in
Milestones Professional.
Duration values are exported automatically.
Duration is exported in hours, so it's important to set the working time
period in the Milestones schedule. |
